Trainer Biography
Melinda, 31, of McEwen, Tennessee, is a lifelong horsewoman who operates a riding school alongside her husband and daughter. Their program uses several adopted mustangs and ponies to introduce the next generation of riders to the horse world while fostering a love for horsemanship and learning. With experience spanning multiple disciplines, Melinda has spent her career pursuing knowledge from a wide range of accomplished horsemen and trainers across the country. From working with Paso Finos in Ocala, to studying colt starting, reining, racehorses, and hunter-jumper programs, she has developed a well-rounded approach to training. Fresh off a Reserve Championship finish at the 2026 Heart of the Horse Trainers Challenge, Melinda is excited to bring her experience, versatility, and passion for horses to the Bluegrass Mustang Makeover.
120-Day Training Story
🐴 Meet Ophelia Don't let her small frame fool you! Ophelia is a young mare with a big personality, plenty of athletic ability, and a whole lot of potential! Smart, curious, and incredibly willing, Ophelia is a forward-thinking mare who genuinely enjoys having a job. She walks, trots, canters, moves off leg, and has hauled to new arenas, where she has handled unfamiliar environments beautifully. Ophelia's journey has been one of patience, perseverance, and learning to trust. Once an extremely reactive, sensitive, and worried horse, she has made tremendous progress through countless hours of thoughtful, consistent training. She's learning to slow down, think through situations, and approach the world with greater confidence. While she has come a long way, Ophelia is still a sensitive young mare who needs an understanding partner. She can be shy around unfamiliar people and may take time to build trust, but once she forms a connection, she is incredibly willing to follow her person's lead and try new things. Ophelia is not a finished or beginner-friendly horse. She would be best suited for an experienced, patient horseperson who appreciates a sensitive, forward ride and enjoys bringing along a young horse. With continued consistency and confidence-building, she has the intelligence, athleticism, and willingness to develop into a wonderful partner. Ophelia may not be the first horse to run up looking for affection, but she's the kind who makes earning her trust feel like something truly special. ❤️ Ophelia has worked hard to get where she is, and her story is far from finished. She's looking for someone who sees not only the horse she is today, but the incredible horse she has the potential to become.
