Trainer Biography

Megan, 29, of Cynthiana, Kentucky, has been involved with horses since the age of four, beginning in the hunter-jumper world before expanding her experience across multiple areas of the industry. Her background includes working with rescue horses, restarting off-track Thoroughbreds, and developing skills in liberty work and trick training. Now an equine veterinary technician and farm owner, Megan combines her diverse experience with a patient, horse-centered approach to training. She believes in building trust, confidence, and understanding through groundwork before progressing under saddle, allowing each horse to learn at its own pace. Inspired by trainers such as Yves Blokesch, Tristan Tucker, and Ben Atkinson, Megan is excited to bring her passion for horsemanship and lifelong goal of working with a mustang to the Bluegrass Mustang Makeover.

120-Day Training Story

Garnet is a 6-year-old, 14.1hh Mustang with a sweet, curious, honest, and willing personality. He genuinely wants to please and has the kind of mind that could be finished in just about any direction. Garnet is going under saddle at the walk, trot, and canter and has also been introduced to small fences. He is learning to move off leg pressure and is beginning to understand working on the bit. He has been hauled out on the trail, crossed water, worked through a variety of obstacles, been ridden bridleless, and has been around cattle. He has also been ridden by other people, both on the trail and in the arena at the walk and trot, and has handled it very well. Garnet can take a little time to feel completely comfortable with someone new, but a few good scratches usually win him over pretty quickly. He does best with someone who gives him a moment to think through what is being asked and lets him use his natural curiosity. Once he understands the job, he tends to pick things up very quickly. He is naturally more “whoa” than “go” and could easily continue in an English, Western, or all-around direction. With continued training and experience, I also think he has the potential to make a really nice kid or family horse down the road. Overall, Garnet is a kind, versatile young Mustang with a great brain and a lot of potential for someone looking for a horse they can continue developing into their own.
