Trainer Biography

Rachel, 25, is a trainer from West Mansfield, Ohio, and a first-generation horsewoman. What began through 4-H has grown into a breeding and training operation focused on developing willing, confident partners. Alongside training problem horses, Rachel is active in the barrel racing industry, starting and developing young prospects for futurity competition. Rachel's training philosophy centers on understanding the individual horse. By combining pressure and release with positive reinforcement, she focuses on building trust, confidence, and a strong foundation while tailoring her approach to each horse's unique needs. She believes successful training comes from meeting horses where they are and creating a partnership that sets them up for long-term success.

120-Day Training Story

Millie is a well-minded, easygoing mare who is an absolute pleasure to ride and be around. Not much phases her, and she is willing, sensible, and easy to handle. She has had extensive groundwork and obstacle training and is confident both on the ground and under saddle. Whether she is working in the arena or riding out in an open field, Millie is consistent and dependable from ride to ride. Under saddle, Millie currently: • Walks, jogs, extended jogs, and lopes both directions • Stops and backs from any gait • Backs through obstacles • Yields her forehand and hindquarters • Sidepasses over and through obstacles both directions • Crosses water and bridges • Trail rides through the woods and along roads • Rides through hanging and enclosed obstacles • Has been ridden around cattle and farm equipment • Rides bareback or in a variety of saddles • Drags objects • Allows a rope to be thrown from her back Her left lead is currently her least favorite, but she continues to improve. Millie also cross ties, hard ties, and ground ties. She stands tied at the trailer and for the farrier, comes when called in the pasture, and absolutely LOVES water. If there is a creek or pond around, she is ready to swim. 😂 Millie could go in several directions. She would be perfectly happy spending her days trail riding, exploring, and swimming, but she also has the foundation and attitude to make a very nice ranch horse in the show pen. A sweet, versatile young mare with a great brain and a lot of potential.
